The Rockies in Black & White

The Rockies in Black & White

We are so use to seeing the Rocky Mountains, or any mountains for that matter, in colour. In black and white the Rockies become a fusion between texture and shape, that is wildly beautiful.

Way back, and I mean way back in the 1950s, black and white photography of landscapes and mountains was the only thing that you could see. Most books were only printed in black and white, and colour was scarce seeing that colour had just arrived. I love black and white. You really see what is there rather than being distracted by colour. The textures, shapes, expressions if we are talking people, all combine into a magical presentation or reality.

Here are some images I captured in 2012 while taking a day trip into the Canadian Rockies. I hope to do more in 2014.
